VMware tools on Astaro (ASG)

In several VMware vCloud providers, the VM's use vmware tools ver 8290.
This allows for some guest OS customization but particularly hot RAM or CPU adding should the OS support it. When I create my Astaro VM's, I select "other Linux 2.6 64bit" and then I insert the ISO to install.

It would be really cool if I could increase the RAM while the VM was running, among other things like set up the NIC IP's from vCloud Director.

In order to do that, I need VMWare tools installed.. and there is something that seems to be on there (maybe) but it's something old and not working with today's vCloud providers.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Astaro Installer automatically installs VMware Tools if it detects that the host is a VMware environment.

    Unfortunately, I do not believe that the Astaro kernel supports CPU/memory hotplug and I can almost guarantee you that the supporting infrastructure scripts do not. You can see that VMware memory/CPU usage works however:

    The VMWare tools version is very old. So today's VMWare vClouds do not interact with it.
