Question about astaro

Hi Guys
I am new to the astaro area and I am currently downloading Astaro Security Gateway software and I just want to know if I can just use that for my spam server or do I need to buy a hardware version of this to do spam server?

    Hi treichard,

    depending on your licence asg has a smtp proxy with a/v and spam detection. The features are independent from hard- or software version. If you use the home licence all features are enabled (up to 50 ip's begind asg for non-commercial use). ASG has a large amount of features and so I recomend reading the manual and/or the online help befor you start installing to get an idea of what you can do and what you want to do.

    First of all get the username correct its treichhart its not treichard... What you mean 50 ip's like how many ip's it can connect to the machine connect to it at once or what? that needs to be explain little bit better please. This isnt going to be used for home version its going to be used as a business setup like a wisp aka wireless internet service provider setup.

    Alright again its not treichart either its treichhart get the username correct please thanks. So your telling me I have to pay for one package? if so then I will just turn way from this Astaro all to together. All I am looking for is Mail Filtering Package that is open source/free. Since Astaro is using Spamassassin and Clamav for its spam and virus setup.

    Hello Treichhart,

    Please be not so picky with your name, everybody makes mistakes and they only wanted to help you.

    Astaro uses open source components, but enhances them with additional proprietary software to increase protection rates and usability. We no longer use spam assassin as it was slow and had a lot of false positives, instead you get a state of the art reputation based spam detection system.

    Also ClamAV is not the primary engine, but the very good Engines from Avira and Sophos.

    Besides that you get an easy to use and very flexible mail filtering system.

    It is kinda obvious that all of this does not come for free, (yet for home use everything is actually free).
    Within the licensing price for Mail Security you get the mail handling, antivirus and antispasmodic engines, transparent email encryption, detailed logging and reporting an end user portal with quarantine and per use email logs and a lot more.

    It is license either based on the hardware appliance used or by the number of users protected by the system. If the system protects a single email server with 9 users, you need the "Mail Security 10 users 1 year" which costs 295 USD. For 25 users it sets you back 540 USD.
    It's not free, but delivers a lot of value for the money.

    Well then please read what my username reads before replying thanks not trying to be rude here but I like to be called as my correct username and not some weird name. For as this thanks for this I guess I will turn to a different option since I will not be using astaro for my application.
