Beta Testing Bonuses

1) What are Astaro's criteria for deciding who get's bonuses for their testing?

2) What about those of us who do run beta editions as they come out, do test technical previews and Easter eggs but never seem to find bugs? How do we get into the pool for these goodies?

1)  It's generally the top 3 who get a big prize.  Sometimes there's a 100-IP license for participants and sometimes not.  This is decided on a beta-by-beta basis by the "powers that be".

2)  You don't need to report bugs, but you do need to actively and constructively participate.  Help other testers with questions and confirm reported issues on your test system are good ways to start.

This beta hasn't had as much participation (less than 10% of the threads and posts) as the last one I did - 7.5 - I was fifth and did get the 100-IP upgrade.

The long 8.2 beta burnt everyone out and is keeping most of the regular folks away. Plus at first glance the only thing new in 8.3 is BGP and a few enhancements to RED. Most users can't test either one without special hardware or dedicated high speed links.
I think I got the 50 IP and posted a couple of times in the 7.2 beta. That was the most liberal give away I had seen but home license only allowed 10IP limit at that time.

They do have incentives for beta testing once in a while but I think the regular testers that show up every beta are not looking for prizes but want to make the product better at least for their own environment. 

Its also very time consuming to debug every problem and present to the developers so they can replicate it. Not to mention, you have the family yelling at you because facebook is not loading correctly (darn facebook is always the first to go:rolleyes[:)] Not to mention broken email and other subsystems that are hard to test while keeping the system fully functional.

And help all of us in the process. I was more curious about the process then anything. It'd be nice to be given something extra for testing beta editions on my system but isn't super important.

You're telling me. [;)] Between work and my home life, I get maybe 1-2hrs a night to play around with this stuff so running repetitive tests to duplicate an open bug isn't exactly top on my priorities list.

And testing at work? People get grumpy for some reason when their internet dies.[:D]
