Name change issues/Text file backup

Hi

Ive been having problems with my v 8.2 gateway which i think, might stem from a change to the name of the firewall.

I.e. No exective reports, no web security/application control.

So im thinking...what is the quickest way to re-install using a backup which only contains core config.

E.g. in a netscreen firewall, i can download the config in text format...amend it to remove any issues...or to do mass renames....then restore using the ammended backup.

In the astaro, the backups contain binary data so i dont think i can ammend it before restoring?

    Welcome to the User BB, brownmb.

    It sounds like your best bet would be to look at the past as preparation and to start from scratch.  The combination of issues you're having doesn't fit together in my mind, so I fear that, as a newbie to Astaro, trying to modify the backup would only multiply your issues and cost you more lost time.  For example, the name of the firewall affects the WebAdmin certificate.

    In fact, one of my gripes with the installation wizard is that it doesn't start with a warning that the name given the Astaro has implications throughout the configuration and is the most important decision made in the initial setup.  If Mail Security is a part of the configuration, we like to use mail.domain.com or whatever is the content of the primary MX record.  That means we also assign the related IP address to the External interface.  If there's no Mail Security involved, the name still should (must, in my book) be an FQDN that resolves to the IP of the External interface.
