ASG 220 rev 2 Update Help

Hi all
Our sysadmin left us some days ago and we have one problem with our firewall.

We have an  ASG 220.    We would like update it, but our partner tell us is not possible because new licensing model... Another Astaro 220 Needed....

Can I update to 1GB ?  I have seen Memory Kit.
Can I update to 7.5xx versión . I Supposed  I  need a mantenaince license, where can i buy it?

I can login into MyAstaro.  There is not license information there. Nothing.

    Hi, rmd, and welcome to the User BB!

    Your reseller can ask Astaro to find your old license and give you access to it.

    You have an interesting problem.  Your Astaro has not received any Up2Dates for 2.5 years - neither new versions nor new IPS (snort) rules.

    There was an official Astaro RAM upgrade program, but everyone that wanted one already has one, so the program is no longer in place.  If you can find an ASG 220 rev.2 ASG2202MU memory upgrade kit somewhere, you can upgrade your ASG 220 and still receive Astaro support.  If you can't find an upgrade that someone still has in stock, you won't be able to upgrade past V7.511, and support for all V7 versions will end 31 December 2012.

    You or your reseller can do manual Up2Dates if you know your root password, but automatic ones up through V7.4 are not possible withoutout a renewal of your Classic license.  It also isn't possible to do an UP2Date from 7.511 to V8 with only 512MB.  It may be possible to install V8 with only 512MB, but I don't know that.

    It's been about two years since Astaro changed the licensing system to be able to support the new technologies in V8, and up until 30 June 2011, you could still purchase renewals for the "Classic" licenses like you had.  Your reseller might be able to get an exception for you, so you can try that.

    I have contacted with astaro directly and now i can see my license information at MyAstaro site.

    I have the root password, and tried update ASG manually from 7.202 to another (i downloaded from astaro ftp), but i couldnt, because "You don't have a valid maintenace subscription"

    Now in "myAstaro"  can upgrade license and download the new file, but there is a worrying warning:
    You must have at least ASG release 7.504 or newer installed on your system.
    Older releases will not accept the new license!

    So I cant do nothing in this bucle   ?¿

    Maybe i have to buy another ASG220 unit...

    Hi rmd,

    You can ask your reseller if he can give you a full 30 days trial license for your ASG 220 so you can update the ASG to the latest V7 version and install the converted old license. 

    Converting an ASG license from the classic to the new license model gives usual an additional year for network security and maintenance. However your maintenance has ended 2008 so it will not help in this case. If you are using the SMTP or HTTP proxy on your ASG, then you will need the equal subscription from the new license model after the license conversion or the proxy would not work any more.

    Installing a V8 on this hardware is possible with the iso image for the hardware appliance but it is not supported.  An V8 also needs a license in the new license model.
