Wireless Security

Is it possible for a NON Astaro AP (e.g. Linksys WRT54G) to appear in Wireless Security/Access Points or is it strictly for Astaro AP's? If so, how would I configure it?

    Only Astaro AP's can integrate with and be controlled by Astaro.

    Thanks for your reply Scott. I kind of figured that would be case, but wasn't sure.

    I have a Linksys 10/100 8-port Workgroup Switch to put into the mix for my connections. One CAT5 from my broadband modem to the Astaro Box, Another CAT5 from the Astaro Box to my Linksys switch. And then a CAT5 from the Workgroup Switch to a client PC In order to get my LInksys WRT54G to work as an Access Point only (The firewall and DHCP are disabled), would I connect it to the Linksys 8 port switch or connect it to a 3rd NIC on the Astaro box?

    Also, I have a Zone Alarm Z100GWireless Router that I would prefer to use for my Access Point, but I don't think there's a way to disable the firewall features in it.

    Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

    Depends how you're using connections through the AP.  If clients using the AP are regular internal users who should have access to all internal resources, then you can connect it to the Linksys switch.  If you're using AP connections for a guest network and want to limit their access to internal resources, then you should hook it up to a separate interface on the Astaro so that you can control traffic through packet filter rules.

    I prefer to hook it up to a separate interface. But I have no idea as to what packet rule I wouild create to control traffic. Is there a place where I can get this info?

    By default, all traffic would be blocked between interfaces.  There isn't any all encompassing list, it depends on what you'll want to use.  For example, you would need a pf rule to allow web traffic (ports 80 & 443) for the new interface, just as you currently have one for Internal (Network).

    Scott, all I want to do is to be able to access the Internet from a wireless device (e.g. blackberrye via my Linksys WRT54G. 

    What does pf mean and where in Astaro would I do a pf? If anyone here could tell me exactly where and what I need to type, i would greatly appreciate it. I am turning gray and my hair's starting to fall out.

    pf = PacketFilter; e.g. add a packetfilter rule under the Network Security section.
