Installs but won't successfully boot

I am installing latest_asg_v8_software downloaded yesterday (3/9/2011).  Burned to dvd and verified.

It installs without problems.  But will not successfully boot, following is the random things that have happened during boot over multiple installs now (including multiple downloads and burns using multiple different burners)
kernel sync error, auto reboots... then hangs when you see the Astaro screen press F2 for details

machine will just hang at the Astaro screen press F2 for details

machine stops responding during one of the daemon loads, doesn't seem to matter which one as it has done it on all of them now


The machine in question was thrown together from various parts:
A64 3000+
nforce4 mobo
2gb ram
74gb raptor
2x pci-e intel gigabit nics

Memory tests fine in memtest and using the memtest on the various firewall distro cd/dvds I have laying around.  HD test fine using Western Digital's test utility.

I have tried the install using the 32bit kernel and then again using the 64bit kernel over the various attempts now.

    Have you checked if the mobo is on the HCL (https://support.astaro.com/support/index.php/Hardware:CompatibilityList)?
     
    It's possible that you burned a bad disc.  This can happen when burning using max speed.  Check that the iso your downloaded has the correct md5, then burn at 8x and see if it helps.

    In terms of mobo on the HCL, I'm not finding many mobo's on there.  However, looking up chipsets it shows as compatible.

    If needed I could drop $50 on an intel m-atx board to use an e7200.  But I'm not finding any m-atx boards on the HCL either.  What boards are known to work?


    If it's a bad burn then I burned many bad copies of ASG and all the copies passed verify. The downloads I have also have the correct md5.

    Bought an intel mobo for the e7200.  Astaro installs and runs on this setup.

    Quick question, when Astaro is set to just use one of the AV scanning engines, which one does it use?
