OK...
I thought my DNS issues were due to improper DNS setup. However, I believe it was due to having multiple ISPs for my multiple uplinks.
I have three DSL connections (due to internet access in our location) and have them all connected to my Astaro. Have had this for two years now and works fairly well. Occasionally, the web service becomes slow and most web sites will timeout due to DNS server timeouts. NOTE: If I turn off the one DSL Interface that has a different ISP than the others, all comes back alive and is good.
Note: I also get a lot of "too many timeouts resolving" and "unexpected RCODE (SERVFAIL) failing" in my DNS live log.
AND, to boot, I have some folks who travel a lot with their laptops, so I have an SSL VPN portal for them. They can connect, but no network neighborhood access for them (their systems are configured for the internal domain). They have to know the CNAME for any PC or share they need to access.
Where does one start?
1) Active Directory
2) Multiple Uplinks with Multiple ISPs
3) SSL VPN
4) DNS issues - multiple DNS server paths
Don't know what else would be relevant for these issues.
