Up2Date 7.510 Released

The main reason for this release is to make our "One-Touch Update to V8 for Appliances" available to all valid remaining ASG installations; notably those with Wireless Security enabled via Full Guard licensing and Stand-Alone licenses. Cluster and HA environments using ASG appliances can also now use this feature. In addition, we will use the opportunity to issue a few fixes.

As promised, we have updated the landing target of the appliance migration process; those making use of this one-touch operation will now land at ASG V8.102. More details are below.

    Hi all,
    we will start updating our customers to 8.1 soon, but I am wondering if anyone has had issues updating appliances with / without HA in-place.

    Furthermore, what is your preferred method of updating x86-Server-based Software installations? Especially concerning
    - Mail Quarantaine / Mail Manager --> Can this be imported?
    - ethX - naming: has anyone had issues with re-ordering of NICs?
    - Update order in HA environments

    I hope I have not missed an existing thread where v7.510 -> v8.102 Update Issues are discussed?

    Hi,

    I hope the reason for the lack of answers is that everybody's v8 update works perfectly :-)
    Furthermore, since 7.510 my previous question "Upgrade in HA environments" seems to be answered. I  think I have read somewhere that the HA v8 Update behaves different from usual minor Updates, since it boots the master first, is that correct?

    Nevertheless, my major concerns are about software installations on x86 Server Hardware: Is there a solution for importing data like email quarantine?

    Hi,

    The update has been very well received, and utilized by thousands of installations so far. Correct in that it will totally upgrade the master, reboot, and then apply to the slave(s). There was a detailed post I made about this, but i dont have the link handy from my mobile sorry. 

    Contents of the mail quarantine are indeed important, we know that would be pain to lose, so we make sure to keep you happy when we can! Only thing which is not preserved is the logs (gigabytes+ are hard to keep) but you can download those, and the reports which are based on the logs and would cause a huge amount of box load and operating time to recreate based on history.

    The NICs are likely to be re-ordered. I recommend printing out the NIC configuration, including MAC addresses, so it is easy to re-identify them from the console with ifconfig after the upgrade.

    The quarantine would be lost.
    If necessary, you could probably move the old firewall to a different internal IP (and unplug the other interfaces) for quarantine access.

    should be updated by Astaro, as 7.510 changed a couple of things in this process..

    anyway, just to make sure I understood your comments correctly and I do not mix up InPlace/Appliance and Software Appliance upgrades:
    - When performing an in-place upgrade (i.e. Appliance), will the quarantine get lost too?
    - When performing an in-place upgrade (i.e. Appliance), will the NICs be renumbered too?

    I am still missing a concrete guide that says what exactly will be lost in Appliance / Software Upgrades, concerning logs, reports, quarantine, nic numbering etc pp
    EDIT: FOUND some Info, inplace upgrade preserving quarantine:

    The upgrade process will convert the entire version 7 configuration, but most reporting and log data will not be converted. Only POP3 and SMTP logs, reports, spool, and quarantine data will be preserved. All other logs and reports will be purged during the upgrade process.

    I think there is still risk of NIC renumbering with the appliance upgrade, but I am not certain.
