Why the lackluster 8.1 GA

Astaro has always pushed out new updates pretty regularly in the past and the ISO's usually follow pretty swiftly. The 8.1 beta concluded before Christmas and the original GA was posted on Jan 12th if I am not mistaken. At that time an ISO was supposed to be released within a week or so but never was. No announcement or mention of beta contest winners either. Also the whole beta process didn't have the usual astaro participation, maybe because of the time constraints due to the christmas holidays. 

Well, the GA post for 8.1 has been revised and rewritten at Up2Date and now the latest 8.1 GA release announcement is on Jan 21. During this time the 8.101 has also been released and now the ISO's are slated to be release during the first week of February. This will be almost 3 months since the release of last ISO (8.003).

Its probably not a big deal but I enjoy testing the betas and at the end usually do a clean install with a fresh ISO and restore from backup. So far no such luck for 8.1[:(]

    Actually, 8.100 was soft released as GA in early December. The January release was only to add it to automatic u2d. I have to agree that it seems rather weird that Astaro has gone much quieter recently than normal. I figured that in December it was due to the holidays and people taking vacation time, but it has persisted throughout this month. The only other thing I can think of is everyone is too busy reaching milestones in preparation for 8.200 beta and fixing some broken stuff in the current 8.x releases.
     
    Where did you see that ISO's won't be out until early Feb?  That is rediculous.  How hard can it be to take the 8.101 GA files, throw them into an ISO and upload to the FTP's?

    Yeahhhhhh!!! I didn't even notice. (I need to get a life although most of my posts are from beta testing[:$]). I was going to say that I should be promoted to grand wizard till I googled the term[:O]

    Anyways back to the topic, in v8.101 release notes there is a mention of the upcoming ISO and vmware image Up2Date 8.101 Released .
    Next week during the beginning of February we will issue new ISO images for hardware and software appliances, along with new vSphere4 virtual machine images for the latest VMware virtualization support.


     I am not sure how closely the announcement will be followed this time, since similar announcements have been made in the past.[:S]

    Beta testing, bring it on, I suppose we are already at beta 8.2xx now with the local cff and wireless usb functions.[;)]
