Please excuse the cryptic thread title - I wasn't sure how to best summarize the forum configuration that's driving me nuts. Let me try to explain...
Three of the most useful features on a forum such as this are the visual indication of which forums have new activity, the highlighting of those new or updated threads within each forum, and the small icon alongside them that takes you directly to the new posts.
Those three things combine to make it very easy to find, view, and respond to anything that's changed since I last visited.
However, the inactivity delay before the system resets my "last visited" time is far too short. If I step away, get distracted, or even research a problem for more than a few minutes, when I return to the forum I find that all the new threads have been marked as "read" and those useful indicators have been reset.
This is extremely frustrating, and I can't help but believe that the inactivity delay must be configurable by the admins. So please, please, increase it so we don't keep losing our place every time we step out to make a cup of coffee or answer the call of nature.
Personally, I'd be happy if it didn't reset ever, or at least no more than once a day, since we can always mark forums read using the Forum Tools menu if we want to do so sooner. But I think a good compromise would be at least 30 minutes. Anything, as long as it's more than the 5 or 10 (seems more like 2 or 3) minutes that it's currently set to.
