Cannot access Windows Home Server

Hi there

I have had the ASG up and running for some time now. Now when I connect the WHS to the network I cannot access it at all. To prove that everything is working correctly I have connected the WHS to a standard modem router and all PC's on the LAN can reach the server with no issues. I am wondering if there needs to be a rule setup to allow the PC's on the network access.

I use static IP's, I have the WHS listed in all the hosts files on each pc.

    If the server and the PCs are all on the same network, then you shouldn't have any problem connecting to them, as the traffic should not transit the Astaro.

    If the server is on its own Astaro interface (a DMZ), the you do need a packet filter rule to allow the traffic.  Remember that this is a firewall, and the default behavior of a firewall is to block any traffic it isn't explicitly told to allow.  Since Astaro is a "stateful" firewall, you only need to allow traffic to the server; the Astaro will track those connections and allow the responses.

    If the PCs are using the HTTP/S Proxy in a non-transparent mode, then you need to configure each browser to skip the proxy for local addresses.

    One more Datapoint. WHS connector is not routable and can only connect to a WHS on the same network. Also the WHS by default alows trafic to it's services for clients on it's on LAN put will block any trafic from other LANS unless you configure the Server firewall software to allow that traffic. For exsample I had to open the servers firewall for File share and TS access to the VPN network to allow access to it for thoses services when I use the SSL VPN to get access to my LAN. and no way to my knolage will the connector software connect through VPN as this connection is another LAN being routed and and I said earler that software will not route.

    I've come across a couple times where even though my WHS is set with a static IP it will for some reason pull a DHCP address. I've solved this by creating a static DHCP reservation just in cast. Not sure this will help but it's worth a shot.
