upgrading to v8

I have an asg120 at my office and was wondering how does one upgrade to v8? The ASG is about 3 years old. There isn't exactly a cd rom for me the throw a cd and upgrade like that. there is a couple of usb ports on the back. could I just throw an external USB CD and install it that way?

    Hi,
    look for external cd/dvd and attached it to usb port of your asg.
    prior to that you must have an iso ready for the desired version (ver 8 as you mentioned)
    shutdown your asg unit,load the disc with iso image to cd/dvd drive and power up then thats it.once the cd/dvd eject the disc, then the installation is over.

    before you do that procedure pls do a backup

    before you reinstall, you should also make sure that your license is compatible with V8 - V8 only supports the new 'on demand' licenses, not the 'classic' ones.

    You can upgrade your license on my.astaro.com, but this is a one way step, make sure you are aware of the advantages/disadvantages of the license models.

    Instead of reinstalling and importing your backup, you can also wait until the upgrade from v7 to v8 is available(which should be the case in the next few weeks).

    Thanks for the advise guys. So it should automatically install from the cd? I don't need to input anything into it? Or is it just like any other install?

    I have a v8 on my home license and it sometimes has times where the internet doesn't work. I tried to ping a url and it works fine. I assumed that they had all the bugs worked out by now but I will hold up for a couple of weeks before upgrading this asg120.

    Will the final release for v8 allow you to download it with uptodate instead of the cd? I know version 7.5 they had the ability but astaro's servers couldn't handle it.

    I'm not sure what you mean by "Astaro servers couldn't handle it", we haven't had any capacity issues since moving to cloud-based distribution some time ago- and before that we just had some slow downloads.

    You will be able to do in-place updates for Astaro hardware appliances, so with a little patience you should be able to avoid the CD process.

    I talked with a guy with the support team today and he said that the new license will upgrade fine but the old ones will have to reissue. I just got a new asg120 Tuesday and it was fine to upgrade to v8. Also I asked about the potential with upgrading with the up-to-date and he said that should be pushing that out by the end of the month.

    I believe that it was 7.5 that I had to download the update (with or without the up-to-date) and it took a long time. I assumed it had something to do with the fact that everyone was downloading at the same time. Its good to know that when v8 is pushed out we won't have that problem.
