Just installed Version 8, question!

So I just downloaded the Virtual Appliance (OVF template), and got it all up and running.

Imported config and all is GREAT!

However, when I use the console, I notice it's running in 32-bit mode. I'm running this on a tank HP ML350 G5 server that supports 64-bit, but I'm noticing that it doesn't even have an 64-bit kernels?

Is the virtual appliance 32-bit only? How can I enable a 64-bit kernel?

    Bear with me a bit, we have new ESX4 / vSphere images coming with new tools and all that good shiny stuff. Also, since this is already present in the software images, so if you like, download the ISO and just load that into your vmware instead. Sure you have to configure a few machine parameters yourself, but it also will solve this problem for you. AFAIK, the tools are present in the ISO image already, so that drawback you mention should not be a problem when using V8 ISO's, let me know if you run into again, and we'll get it fixed.

    for those of you that like our pre-built VMware downloads, they are coming shortly, i promise. We're on this!

    I tried to build a virtual appliance starting from v8 ISO and I can see the vmware service started. I'm able also to use 64bit and multi cpu...so it is good for me.

    If I'm not in wrong, with v7 this was not possible to do so.
    Now, instead I found that it is possible with v8 so at this time for me there is no reason to have a pre-built virtual appliance. IMHO it's better to start from ISO and configure the virtual machine parameters.

    So, thanks so much for the useful info!
