Greetings Folks,
I had used Astaro for years on Verizon Fios. Recently I have moved and unfortunately am stuck with Comcast. To cut down on physical PC's, I was planning on doing an Ubuntu server with VMWare Server on top of it. (I haven't been able to find good ESXi compatible hardware inexpensively) Then put the Astaro gateway in a VM.
The computer has three NIC's in it. One dedicated for VM management and access to the Ubuntu host. The other two NIC's were to be bridged to virtual switches in VMServer.
I can get Astaro installed, I can connect to the management console, but I cannot get the Astaro to pull an IP through the cable modem.
To my understanding, a cable modem only gives an IP to the first MAC address it sees. This means that the physical MAC gets detected before the virtual MAC, and explains why it won't connect.
I have already done the reboot of the cable modem and let it sit idle without the battery, but I am curious if anyone else has done this setup and made it work.
Thanks!
