OpenDNS may be a better choice for some. One problem I had with using them is that they do not follow spec by returning a 404 when the domain is not found. Instead they redirect you one of their search pages. You can check the performance of various public DNS servers with the tool located at https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm With the results, you can decide which servers might offer you better response times.
Although OpenDNS does do that, it is very careful to NOT do that in a way that can disrupt RBL look-ups. I don't know of any problem their limited DNS hijacking causes, so, if someone knows what we should watch out for, I'd like to learn.
