Can't Surf when downloading a Torrent

Did you resolve this? I get exactly the same issue - as soon as I start a torrent I cannot browse the web ( not even to the Astaro web management interface )

It's not the machine I am on ( a MacBook and Transmission/Safari ) as it's all OK if I tunnel the connection via a VPN through the Astaro gateway, but directly via the Astaro it grinds to a halt.

( Adding a little more to the above the problem is only when downloading a torrent - when seeding everything is OK. )

I donno where to really post this question, so i am posting it here


Basicly what happens is when i start to download a torrent or upload one, surfing the net or any other kinda internet activity is halted.

Now i am pointing my finger at Concurent Connections being at it's limit per IP address. Now here is another question? How do i go about upping that limit?

This isn't an astaro issue most likely.  I have this issue as well with vista and win7 64-bit.  I have gone to the extreme of removing the Astaro box and plugging my computer directly into the cable modem...with no positive improvements. It's some kind of interaction with Windows and Bt clients.  I'm still trying to hammer it out myself..[[:)]]  I jsut live iwth it..aka if i need to get a torrent i fire it up on my lappy and keep my desktop moving along..[[:)]]

plus I don't have the same issue when routing it all via a VPN tunnel and hairpinning it on a Cisco ASA5505 back out to the Internet. Same laptop, same programs different firewall.......

Turn off ips then and see if that helps.  Quite a bit of p2p traffic can get mistaken as attack traffic..see if that helps.  If it does then selectively engage a rule group one at a time until it breaks.  Make sure you have the im/p2p section either off or setup to allow p2p traffic.

IPS already off - everything off except S2S VPN ( 1 tunnel ) and firewall ( with 3 rules )

does it work right if you plug your mac directly into your provider's device?

Yes. It's definitely the Astaro as I though I'd said before [:S]

routing it through a vpn doesn't "count" if the traffic still passes through the astaro..hence my question.

The VPN tunnel ( SSL on port 443 ) is created between my MacBook and the ASA5505 the Astaro is not involved in the VPN at all - all the Astaro would see is a connection on port 443 to the outside interface on my ASA, *everything* else is encapsulated and routed via the SSL tunnel.

Which is why I say the Astaro is not involved at this point! All traffic is encapsulated to the ASA then it is hairpinned out to the Internet from the ASA.
