what to use? Essential Firewall Edition – free for business or the home use?

Hello,

I am a home use person, but what I do with my network and servers is more advanced than basic home use stuff. I have tried to see what the core differences are between the free home and free small business version of the Astaro product. Remote / VPN connection is a must and very good detail reporting of all network traffic. Port forwarding.  Mainly what makes the business version better or more desirable over the home version if any. If they did about the same I would figure one free version for both.  Anyone using the business one? I am currently on the home one, thought I would test that first. But think I might want to move up to the business. What is the trade off or gains of using business over home?

    Hi Chad,

    Please do not think of the Home User version as having less features than the Free Essential firewall. It's exactly the other way around:

    The Home User version (that may ONLY be used for non-commercial use cases) has all the features that you get with an Essential Firewall + the Network, Mail and Web Subscription (those include e.g. features as SSL VPN, Site-to-Site VPN, IPS, HTTP proxy, SMTP filtering, Antivirus and so on). So it has significantly more features, but cannot be used with a) more than 50 IP addresses in your LAN and b) not in commercial environments.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the information. I assumed home use for home and business for business and home can't be used in business. I do not have a business, but in my I.T. Profession, I model and design my home network like I would for a business. Part is for my own education as well as experience in setting up networks. I run / treat my home network and servers as if it was a business, with security in mind and the advanced services used more commonly by a business model in terms of logging, remote connections and having full view of what is going on and across my network.

    I have now figured out basic port forwarding, been running the latest software release of the home version for 2 days and have been very happy. Thankyou for the information.
