Astaro Branded 1U Server Box

Hopefully this isn't a repost, I browsed around and couldn't find anything. But I found this from a local computer retailer:

Astaro/SuperMicro Celeron 420 1.6GHz 512MB 80GB 1U Server w/Video, Dual GbLAN & RAID - No Operating System Astaro/SuperMicro PIO-515M-IBSM-BL002

Its an 1U Astaro branded box for 169.00, which actually isn't a bad deal.

I would buy one, but I'm building a lower power Atom system ~20 watts for usage [:)]

    So I finally have one of these little beats in my hot little hands and I must say I'm impressed. It's a noisy beast but at $320cdn (including shipping & customs) it's comparable in price to the Atom I built a few months ago. It'll be going into our main office tomorrow to replace the Atom I currently have and the Atom is going to another task I have for it.

    Now if only shipping weren't so darn expensive...[:D]



    I'm probably going to end up buying one of these and modify it a bit for energy savings.

    Do these boxes have a standard 20 or 24 pin ATX power connector?

    I want to replace the PSU with a PICO-PSU as well as use a 2.5" laptop drive, and a couple other things.

    Just ordered one in the US. 159.00 USD including shipping. Intrested to see how V8 runs on it. PS. NO CD drive is included.

    Came today. Nice rack server for the money. Yes the fans are just as load as any other 1U server to be expected. No CD and NO 3wire but the HD did come pre-loaded with AWG V7. Don't know what kind of Lic if any. When I tryed to run the V8 install after adding a 2gig DDR2 5300 Chip the install detected all HW, Asked if I wanted the 64bit version then just before the last step it said the software was not going to install on a Astaro applance and I needed to down load the applance ISO. In the proccess of doing that now and I hope that will still allow the Home Use Lic to be used. Will let you know.

    Well the appliance ISO did not work ether. How can I make the software ISO not think this is an astaro appliance?? Is there something in the BIOS I can change or will I not be able to use this with Astaro now?

    jzkkn5, you have to delete the existing partitions from the hard drive, then load from the software ISO.

    Yes I figured that out after playing with it. Just not a chance to post that yet. Booted from a XP cd and removed all partions and V8 64 bit loaded and seems to run just fine. Thanks

    Yes the MB has ATX connect. It looks like a standard MB nothing special about it.
