Power Failure Results

If there are one or more power failures, can the Astaro software installation/configuration become corrupt?  If yes, how would you repair the corruption or prevent it from happening in the first place?

    Hi,
    Astaro uses the EXT3 filesystem, which is fairly resistant to filesystem corruption, but it's always possible for data to get corrupted, and it has happened to at least a few users here. If the configuration DB is corrupted, re-installation is your best option.

    In order of importance:

    (critical)
    1. 
    a. have Astaro email you configuration backups nightly, and make sure you're receiving them. If you have Astaro encrypt the backups, make sure you have the key in a safe place.

    b. Keep the latest ISO around. Note that restoring a backup usually requires the same version of Astaro, so make sure you're able to re-install, get online, up2date, and restore the backup.

    2. use a good surge suppressor.

    (optional)
    3. put Astaro on a supported UPS and plug in the USB cable. Then, Astaro will shut itself down when the battery is getting low.

    4. if you care, have Astaro copy logs to another server (SMB or syslog or FTP)
