am i affected by the HT bug?

i am currently experiencing the same problem as others with bad web surfing when proxy is on. i really need the cache to be working so i have to have proxy on.

after reading many threads i came to the conclusion to disable HT and make the IPS system on Internal network

well after looking into my system i found the following:

Intel Pentium Dual CPU e2180
2.00Ghz / 800Mhz

Ram: 2048 pc2-5200

the bios has no option to enable/disable ANY cpu option because this is an HP machine. its AMI bios though

am i affected by the HT bug?

pls advise

    your CPU is a true DUAL CORE processor, hence, it has no HT at all so you can't be affected by said bug(which would affect old P4/Xeon-HT processors or state of the art core i7 / Xeon 5500 ones).

    you could try posting in the web surfing forum or opening a support case, troubleshooting these kind of performance issues can be a bitch.

    IF you want, you can disable "core multiprocessing" or "core multiplexing" which effectively disables one core, it probably has one of those names, then again i don't remember if HP BIOS let's you disable one core....

    Ya.. that clears it up. .i just had to check.

    there are absolutely no options for changing any cpu value in the bios for the hp machine.

    for the most part i assume the cpu is a good one ... its sad to see even the i7 is affected.

    i don't know if the i7 is affected, i assume that if there's an HT bug it'll also affect the i7, but since it has so many physical cores, it might not affect it(dunno how the core scaling works on ASL, but i assume >4 would not bring much performance)

    Hi, there was a real, acknowledged HT bug in the proxy A WHILE AGO. It was fixed.

    If you're running 7.4 or 7.5 you shouldn't have a problem.

    There have been ONE OR TWO users here (such as RFCat) who have had problems with HT on certain motherboards.

    I don't believe that it is an overall problem however.

    If your IPS is configured for "ANY" in Local Networks, change it to LAN or INTERNAL NETWORKS asap.

    What exactly are the problems you're having with the http proxy?

    Keep in mind the Anti-Virus features will cause some slowdown... you could try single-scan or none to see if that makes a difference.

    the problem i am having is similar to that of the one in the thread in the other subsection with the http proxy causing slowdowns like web page loading time increasing and downloads being cut in half.
    so without the proxy the download is at 80KB and with the proxy its at 10KB.

    IPS is OFF and even when it is on i have it set to LAN
    antivirus scanning .. on or off = same issue

    is it possible to setup pfsense as a bridge maybe between the internet modem and the asg box so i can use pfsense for its traffic shaping power?

    if so how would asg be setup? can it remain a router? can pfsense get an autoip from asg and still have pfsense shape traffic then pass it it out to the net?

    its a weird question but i am sure someone has asked a similar one.

    I am experience the same inconvenient issue, but have certainly no HT processor (runs on an old HP G1 DL360), but it cuts my Cisco downloaded files (large ones) and this is pretty annoying. Never had this before 7.5. It took me quite a while before I suspected the normally ok running Astaro...

    Specifically what version of Astaro are you running?  Was it a new install or an upgrade?

    What kind of connection to the internet do you have?  Are there any other devices in that path?
