Install VMWare tools on astaro

I just moved my Astaro Gateway setup to a new ESXi v4 box.  Everything works, but I don't know how to get VMWare tools installed.  Has anyone here gone through that?

    Hello John

    VMWare Tools and drivers are built in since years. Simpy install from asg iso, and it installs the VM enviroment by itself and starts the tools/drivers.

    Yes, the tools are built-in and will automatically install when the software installation detects that it's on a VMware platform (during install).  The only way the tools can be updated is with Sophos UTM firmware updates; they update the tools themselves from time to time.

    VMware Tools: Unmanaged ?

    When I try to install the VMtools I get the error:

    Call "VirtualMachine.MountToolsInstaller" for object "ASG" on vCenter Server "server.name" failed.
    This virtual machine does not have a CD-ROM drive configured. A virtual machine must have a CD-ROM drive configured for this option to work.

    That's VMware's choice of terminology, which confused me at first. 

    "Unmanaged" simply means that vmware tools is already installed in the guest, seen by ESXi, but ESXi / vSphere is not responsible for managing it.

    From v8 onwards, the software install will detect that it's going into a virtual environment and automatically install vmware tools for you. Tools will then be updated occasionally with the up2date system.
