Slow Boot

Is 45 minutes normal for a boot time?

I'm running the latest version dedicated on an AMD 2600 with 1gb of ram. But it takes 45 minutes to boot up which is like a lifetime. 

In general usage sometimes the machine also goes upto 100% usage and slows down http traffic (about 10-20 in top).

(I run linux servers that will respond to a ping from reboot in like 1 minute so 45 minutes seems very slow to me.)

    Wich Version? There was a Problem with v6 and "DNS multiple Hosts" Definitions. If there are a lot of IP´s behind that Host Definition, booting could cost you an hour ("tested" with "liveupdate.symantec.com" whitch resolved to ca. 1000 IP´s over Time).

    We are using 7.405. I had a bit of a look at the bootup process but didn't notice anything too notable - I'll have to reboot and watch it more closely. dmesg also didn't show anything. Might it show up there?

    (We have fewer than 10 clients)

    I had a system which booted very slowly during the kernel decompress stage; I don't remember the exact solution but it was definitely related to the IDE drivers.
    It didn't take 45 minutes though; maybe 5.
