Slow Boot

Is 45 minutes normal for a boot time?

I'm running the latest version dedicated on an AMD 2600 with 1gb of ram. But it takes 45 minutes to boot up which is like a lifetime.

In general usage sometimes the machine also goes upto 100% usage and slows down http traffic (about 10-20 in top).

(I run linux servers that will respond to a ping from reboot in like 1 minute so 45 minutes seems very slow to me.)

  • Can you connect a monitor and watch the boot process?  Maybe there's a hardware issue like a failing drive, controller, display adapter, etc. that's causing a bunch of retries.
