It all comes down to willingness to learn and setting aside enough time for it. If you let a seemingly difficult issue stop you from going forward, you'll never get anywhere. And if you think by looking at alternatives to suit your technical ability, you may not find it.
You see, I too was in your shoes. In the past, I was using smoothwall and in my frustration, I looked for something easier. Well, I thought Astaro was easier but on the contrary, it was far more complex than smoothwall, imho.
I then decided to drop my anchor and stayed to learn Astaro. Mind you I'm still in the learning phase but I've gotten better. With help from users in the forum, I was able to overcome many of the problems I've encountered.
If you decide to go with another tool, stick with it until you become self-sufficient. Otherwise, you're just picking up small bits and pieces of a puzzle which you will never be able to put together. Good luck.
