Is astaro suitable for this scenario?

Hi,

I am currently doing a project/coursework for university in which we have to write a report on setting up a small network for a company, securing the network and securing each individual client pc.

The scenario is, the company has several offices located throughout the globe, employees have to be able to communicate through email with each other so we need a mail server, the employees need internet access but this will be restricted to minimize potential virus/malware threats and to maxamize productivity.

It seems astaro will be ideal for this type of scenario but I have some further questions.

1. Do i need seperate mail servers, FTP servers, proxy servers etc or is that handled through astaro?
2. We need to be able to set up and FTP server with a folder only the CEO has access to in which he can upload a document, have a customer at a remote location download, modify and re-upload the document for the CEO (VPN Tunnel with L2PT over IPSec?) the FTP folder has to accesable only to the CEO and remote customer. Can this be used with say SFTP for encryption?

Which astaro product would be ideal for this scenario?

    Astaro is not a mail server.  I don't believe the Astaro FTP proxy can be made to handle SFTP, so the VPN solution is preferable.  Other than that, yes, if you look at Astaro, you will find what you need to accomplish your assignment.

    In the main office with the mail server, you will want an appropriately-sized ASG with Web Security and Mail Security subscriptions.  In the other offices, you may be able to use a smaller ASG since you will not need Mail Security.  The AWG is not advised since it would not be able to establish site-to-site VPNs as can the ASG.

    Good luck.  From here on out, you should use the documentation and online demos provided on the Astaro website.

    FTP would also need to be a separate server, although the firewall can proxy FTP if desired.

    SFTP could be allowed to the FTP server via packetfilter rules or VPN.

    If your project requires that everything (FW, FTP, Mail, ...) be done on one server, look at ClarkConnect.
