Forcing a new IP address assignment?

Is there a way to get the ASG to get me a new IP address assignment from my ISP?

Occasionally I'll hit a web site with an annoying bandwidth limitation and it will block traffic until the next day or some number of hours. I'd like to be able to get a new IP address at will. This is apparently easy to do by changing the MAC address of the gateway, setting the new MAC address in the cable modem, then resetting the modem.

Although I've never heard that the gateway has this function, I thought I would ask anyway. Might be a nice feature to add if it's not possible right now.

If you don't have a fixed IP, then you will get a new IP by hitting the 'reconnect'-button at the external interface.

To be specific:

(In Astaro 7.x) There is a 'renew' button on the Network-Interfaces page.

This button will RENEW the DHCP lease from your ISP.

IF your ISP frequently hands out new IPs (*cough DSL*) then you MAY get a new IP.
If you ISP uses "long-lease DHCP", e.g. many cable companies, you most likely will NOT get a new IP.

The only sure way to force a new IP is to change the MAC address in the firewall. As Astaro doesn't seem to have an easy way to do that, swapping out the EXT NIC, or possibly re-ordering the NICs is the only sure way.

I agree that an admin setting to change the MAC would be useful.
I think most NICS allow it.
