# of packets until URL-Filter blocks request

Hi !

can some one please tell me what is packet size is require to deny site/url 

say www.avast.com  is bloack when some one  go to www.avast.com  it block this site after how many packets !


can this be customized if so from where

    The standard setup coming from Astaro includes exceptions for the HTTP proxy.  It is likely that the Astaro is doing an anti-virus check and that the Avast server times out after the download starts.  Add avast.com to one of the exceptions.

    Sorry Bob avast was the just example i want to block any url/site how many packet are exchange with site and ASG server  ?
    say www.abcdef11.com to block after how many packet downloading it will block  www.abcdef11.com

    when doing only URL-Filtering there are two connections:
    1) from the client/browser to the proxy
    2) from the proxy to the webserver

    In the case of URL filtering only Connection 1) is created. and the Browser sends the HTTP Request to the Proxy. The proxy analyzes it, especially the URL included in that Request. if the URL is blocked, than the proxy returns an error page. 
    In this case Connection 2) is never established and no data packets get exchanged with the webserver.

    Connection 1) can consist of multiple packets going back and forth. 
    Connection 2) will transmit no packet at all.

    Yes upto some extent /is there any packet size !
    pls see attachment its always different 

    is www-http is http only or its   different 

    as you say when i try to browse www.avast.com  it doesnt show any packet but when i try to download database it exchange some traffic using www-http

    If I understand correctly, you want to limit the number of packets a user can receive from a certain site.  I don't believe you can do that kind of traffic measurement and regulation with the Astaro.

    Perhaps there is a different solution with the Astaro: what problem are you trying to address?

    Ok Sir ! i am trying to understand ,when astaro block any site ,it use/allow how many pack for url to block  /see now as i say when i try to viste www.avast.com  it does not show any traffic with iftop but when i try to download database from astaro it use www-http (is www-http is differant then http ? ) where i see lot of packet are allow if u see attachment u will see it (lot of time astaor use ip address (not domain ) to update databae that is differant story 

    Is it clear Sir ,if not please tell me i will wite dtls to you with personal message  (as i do most of the time ) and you always co-operate on all issuse

    As Gert explained, there are no packets accepted from a blocked URL.  The only time the proxy contacts a URL to request packets for a client is when the URL is NOT blocked by a blacklist or the Content Filter.

    Don't confuse this with the behavior of the content filter in email.  In email, if the mail isn't rejected during the SMTP transaction, the entire email is accepted and scanned.

    Does that make sense?
