SSH commands for port current throughput

Is there a way to view the current throughput on an interface with SSH?  I want to compare this to the GUI.  I have Vonage at home, set to the highest voice quality.  When I'm on a phone call my outbound throughput ranges between 15 and 20k according to the dashboard.  Thanks.

    IFTop is available on the shell, as root.

    e.g.
    su -
    iftop -i eth1

    IPTraf can be 'hacked' in quite easily as well (If you have paid support, this may void it).
