SSL vs. Secure Client

Can some one explain the difference between using SSL for VPN and using the Secure Client for VPN? Is SSL not secure? I see that there are licensing fees for using the secure client, so I have to evaluate whether my company needs this or not when looking at Astaro products. Thanks.

    I believe the "Secure Client" is a third-party product which Astaro has to pay for, and it uses IPSec or PPtP (I don't remember which).

    The SSL VPN can work with free clients such as OpenSSL, and is therefore free for Astaro users.

    Both are extremely secure. There _may_ be a slight performance benefit with IPSec if you use AES as the cipher, but I'm guessing.

    And, if you're using Windows PCs, the L2TP over IPSec option is sweet because the VPN client is supplied by Microsoft and the usage is very clearly documented on the Astaro KnowledgeBase.
