How do you configure Astaro Client on windows xp PC with non-administrative rights

Hello,

I have several PC's that have no less than administrative rights for security and support reasons...
I have found that the Astaro SSL VPN Client application doesn't support this user right straight out the box.... Am I correct?
How do we overcome this so people we don't need to give the administrative  rights are able to do so as a limited user?

    Hi Grant,

    I hope that the following info can help you. AFAIK, yo need Administrative privileges during the setup/installation of the SSLVPN Software/Client. (You will add a new (virtual) Network Interface...). Maybe it can help (what I haven't tested now) to add the user in the following default Windows XP group: Network Configuration Operators . Let us know if it finally do the trick.

    I bet you can't even set up a standard Windows VPN client without Admin privileges.  If you don't want to give the user admin rights, you have to log in as an admin and do the install.

    The problem is that non-administrators don't have the right to add / change network routes. I suppose if you (as administrator) set up a fixed route to your remote lan, than an ordinary user could start / stop the tunnel.
    There are a couple of howtos covering that on the net, however most of them include running OpenVPN with administrator privileges including the obvious security problems.

    I did try putting the user into the "network configuration administrator" group, with no luck so far.
    I would be very interested in any solution here...

    Great news - adding the user to 'Network Configuration Operators' works well....
    Had to install as adminstrator and and 'Modify' rights to the C:\Program Files\Astaro folder (to cover for the log file etc...)....

    Plain old users are now can remote SSL in with success..
