Strange NIC issue

Hi. I am new to the Astaro world so please be gentle. [:)]

I installed 7.305 on an old box. Two NICS only since I just wanted to use this as my gateway on my home lan. On the intial bootup I hooked both nics to my local switch and they both picked up IP's. 

I configured one to be hooked to my cable modem and when I hooked it up, neither connection worked. I tried rebooting it like this and no dice. Hook both back up to the local lan and it works instantly. Hooked the external connection back to the cable modem and I cannot use the webadmin interface anymore. 

Is this by design or is something amiss? [:S]

FYI: When both are working on the local lan I can access the webadmin interface from either connection.

    Hooking both interfaces to the same switch is likely to cause problems.

    Also, only the external NIC should be a DHCP client, and that's assuming your cable supports DHCP.

    Thanks for the reply. Your right. This was causing an issue. I used the intial setup guide for the hardware appliance to hammer my way through another issue. 

    The eth1 would not pickup an address from my cable modem. This was solved by going in the eth1 interface settings and ticking the GW box. [:$] Still no surfing though. I created a masquerading rule. No surfing yet.

    The setup wizard also configured 5 Packet filters: Voip, IM, Terminal Apps, Email, and Web Surfing. When I added one for DNS the magic happened. Other than those issues, this thing is very nice. I am impressed. Cisco PIX, I will ne'er miss ye. [:D]
