Upgrading Question

Hello,

Currently I'm running 7.102, on a box with 768MB ram, 1.8 processor, etc.  I know I probably should upgrade to the latest and greatest, but get nervous about losing settings or performance loss.  Right now my version runs great, no problems at all.  Which is why I'm hesitant.

If I decided to upgrade, couldnt' I just download the newest version, install it on another box I have laying around.  Then reimport my backup config from a usb thumb drive and be on my way?  Would that work?  Or do I HAVE to upgrade my current box that it resides on.

    That should work, all you should lose is your logs.

    If you aren't seeing high CPU usage, the only upgrading problems were those from 7.202 --> 7.300, and they were resolved by restarting from the command line with SSH.

    At least, that's all we saw after 7.1 (and only at one site), and all I remember reading about from here.

    If you have a spare box, doing the migration instead of in-place upgrade will work for you.  As Bob mentioned, you will lose logs- and you should make sure there is no mail in quarantine or spool that you want.

    Thats great! Then if something goes wrong I can always just plug back in my old box and be on my way.  Perfect.  Thanks guys!
