IRC Channel for Astaro support/users/admins

Hello 
I am a avid Astaro user, as well as IRC'er. My company which sells and supports Astaro units also runs a small IRC network. I was wondering what, if any interest there would be in having a IRC channel for astaro users for chatting about support issues, problems and deployments. I have setup #astaro on irc.imperium.ca if anyone is interested.

    Colin, I've thought that it would be advantageous to have a separate place for Astaro resellers to communicate, but I feel like "chat" about technical issues and problems should be centralized in a single location.  Maybe I don't understand how an IRC channel would enhance this forum.

    Bob, I would define it as something separate, the right tool for the right job. Forums certianly have their advantage when it comes to having things documented and searchable. IRC would be used when you want to have a more general discussion, its hard to get to know someone with forum posts! as well I find sometimes I can get a faster resolution by being able to quickly discuss a topic, this is proven by networks like freenode where many opensource projects have irc channels for support. IRC should not detract from a forum, simply provide a alternative method and more choice to the user, like FOSS!

    Ultimatly I am just throwing the idea out there, I know I have wished in the past to be able to just pop on irc and ask some astaro guru a question, but maybe I am the only one.

    I had actually started up an irc channel quite some time ago on Freenode, #astaro . It has had a few visitors over time, but doesn't have any real regulars.

    I had figured on Freenode since it has a lot of FOSS related projects on it, and Astaro sponsors a lot of FOSS software.

    You're definitely not the only one who wants / needs answers to occasional questions - and at times in the expedient manner that an IRC channel can provide.

    Nonetheless, it's hard to beat the ease of one place to go share and get info.  Plus reading through threads of old IRC traffic, or asking the same question yet again, can be less than efficient.

    Still, your points are definitely relevant.  Maybe we / Astaro could think about and discuss this a bit.
