This is about compression of files on the astaro site/ftp.
An example, the astaro asg vmware workstation image (asg-7.302-vmware.zip). Uncompressed it's 1.47GB. The zip file of it on the Astaro ftp is 834MB.
If I recompress it as a zip file using the best settings it compresses to 808MB.
If however I compress it using 7zip it compresses to 548MB. That's a significant reduction from the zip file. Applied to all downloads it could significantly reduce bandwidth costs for everyone and make downloads of the software/updates faster for the users.
It's like going from LHA/LZH to ZIP. Only better.
Any way, just a suggestion. (or at least compress as zip and 7z files and let the users choose which to download)
