Multi-WAN interface support and captive portal support

Please explain what you mean by "multi-WAN" interfaces, Astaro currently supports multiple WAN interfaces and fail-over.

By Multi-Wan it means being able to specifically tell Astaro's proxy services (e.g. HTTP, SMTP, DynDNS client)to make use of them. At the moment short of hacking its function through the Shell interface it seems Astaro's User Interface does nothing to support this.

Also by Multi-Wan interface support I mean more than just a normal cold standby scenario; I would be expecting Astaro to intelligently distribute load across two or more active Internet Lines of any any nature at the same time.

Limited load balancing on WAN links is under active review, but to get true load balancing over WAN links the ISP needs to be involved- otherwise all that can be done is split traffic between the available links.

It is currently possible to use policy routing to route some traffic through alternate links, but you are correct that the proxies don't currently support multiple WAN links.

FWIW, I've seen a reduction in need for WAN aggregation lately, with ever increasing broadband speeds and the increasing availability of services such as Metropolitan Ethernet, available bandwidth is often more than adequate (if you are fortunate enough to be in an area where these services are available).

Yes that would be correct, but then Astaro would be seen as doing nothing to help customers or users in the rest of the world where such facilities are still decades away from being realised if they are just hoping users will wait for them.

If Astaro is able to automatically split the traffic (including those from the proxies) across available links that would be plenty welcomed; I do understand that true link aggregation would need involvement on the ISP side so that is unreasonable to ask for (unless ISP's start to give some kind of LACP support to broadband customers [;)] ).

We are currently working on a solution that automatically splits outgoing traffice over multiple uplinks.

By multiple uplinks would you be including the use of PPPOE on the non-primary links without the use of an ADSL router?
At the moment it is very frustrating to have the need to setup another router to be in front of the ASG because normal off-the-shelf ADSL routers are not that robust and that's the reason why the ASG was used instead.

I do know that the feature request has been made, and the developers have heard it and are actively investigating the possibilities.  I can't guarantee that it will happen or when, but the request is being taken seriously.

They may also want to focus on the Captive Portal. Fortinet already have this in their appliance (they called it Firewall Authentication).
