Move from Cisco ASA

I am looking at an Astaro 525 to Move off of a Cisco ASA. Has anyone done this. Is there any reason i wouldn't want to do this.

THe astaro will also replace our Microsoft ISA server with surf control.

Just looking for some general info.

We currently have a 50 site lan2lan vpn to the asa.

    stability & speeds? those ASA's are very stable once configured correctly.

    the Astaro can indeed replace both the ASA & ISA since it does both Firewall as Proxy etc.

    may be looking for a 19" server with Astaro on it? then you can choose your own hardware specs since Astaro is in need of lots of CPU power and RAM. also make sure it's not a Intel processor since we will see exploits for Intel processors soon. those will os in-depended!

    just my thoughts.

    I've moved customers off of ASA to Astaro before.  It's a good upgrade in many situations.

    Just wanted to make sure i am not making a bad decision. Going to get a demo box. I was going to purchase the 525 appliance rather than building my own. Do you recommend against this?

    Is it stable? I guess it is linux based, but will need the reliablity of the asa, running for more than a year without a reboot. How does the astaro compare

    So, what are you doing when Cisco releases a security patch?

    I never apply the security Patches, Have the access lists on the ASA configured in a way so all it does is VPN connection termination.

    not to be rude, but that's bad!

    no matter what firewall system you have it's only as good as the administrator who maintenance it.

    anyway, give astaro a go and see it your self.

    I'll agree; there's no security product out there worth it's salt that doesn't have patches that need to be applied from time to time... unpatched systems are one of the easy targets that intruders look for.
