First, what hardware are you running Astaro on?
1. Squid one of the most commonly used HTTP caching proxies... it works well even for huge networks, including WikiPedia.

Forgot to mention... the 3.2GB RAM limit you're seeing is a limitation of most 32-bit systems... if you want to use more RAM, especially if you want more than 2 or 3GB just for caching, you need to run your cache on a 64-bit server with a 64-bit OS.

or on a Linux distro with a 32 bit kernel that supports PAE..[:)]
Hi and thanks to all.
1. Concerning my huge traffic, is there any advantage of using external Cache proxy over the Astaro internal cache, and if yes, which would be recommended. Bare in mind that all HTTP on port 80 will have to go be sent out to this machine, and any request will have to be checked there first (another performance issue.)
2. Is it possible to tweak the cache?
3. Maybe it would be better in heavy traffic to turn the cache off all together?
The current situation is that when ever I turn on the HTTP Proxy Cache, the surfing speed (getting into sits and the amount of time that pages are loaded) takes longer time.
I’m aware of the HTTP content filtering and the HTTP A/V (I’m using single scan).
My disk is big Fast SATA and almost empty: Swap-0, Log-6%, Data-3%. No raid.
While turn on the Cache, I can see slightly increasing in the RAM memory and almost no increasing in disk usage.
I have to say I’m not very enthusiastic of using separate machines for different tasks.
One of the main reasons of using Astaro was its “All in one” capability. So I don’t have to invest extra money in parallel systems.
I think that my Machine, with 500 users (even with heavy usage) should be tolerated by Astaro without too mach afford.
“Any ad-filtering you can do will going to make a large difference”
What do you mean by “ad-filtering”?
“May be due to Adobe Acrobat updates”
It’s on the exactions.
“you need to run your cache on a 64-bit server with a 64-bit OS”
My sever can run 64 bit.
I thought its Astaro limitation while installing on non Astaro Appliance systems.
Is it possible to choose or to change it?

"Astaro right now is a 32-bit platform only..it is not changeable except by Astaro."
Would they do it if I'll ask them to?
