Things I'd like to see in future Astaro versions...

Hi there,
   I just want to throw in some suggestions that I personally would like to see in future Astaro releases.

   Firstly quota management. It would be nice to have quotas (data downloads, web surfing etc.) applied to people based upon the machines they use. For example, my wife, daughter and myself all have our own computers but our daughter is notorious at blowing our Internet download limit out of the water and we all have to suffer the consequential shaping to 64Kbs. If I could limit my daughter, well her computer anyway, to certain limits then only she would be affected with no access to the Internet.

    Secondly could there be a "View All" in the Quarantine Manager? Anyone can sort the list by "Error", "Spam" etc. but an option to view all messages, both POP and SMTP even, would make things easier. A screenshot (attachment) of the viewable options is shown.

    There ya go! Got that off my chest.

    Yes, the quarantine manager could certainly be improved.  We don't use POP, but of course that is the default selection, so every time I use the QM, I have extra steps involved to get the info I require.  I would have thought SMTP would be the more logical default, but it shouldn't be difficult to design it to get a selection parsed before going into the QM.  Once in, the user can navigate however they wish.  

    Also would be good to allow the auditor to access the QM, or have a check box for auditor access to allow or deny.

    More support for multiple PPPoE connections.
    (Especially load balancing, chaining).

    Better failover support, I have a ethernet internet connection and a backup PPPoE connection on our main ASL.  Often it won't fail back to ethernet despite the ping addresses coming live again.

    Some BGP support?  Would be nice, especially route advertising.

    Since we're adding features to the wishlist:

    * Better MultiWAN support. Look at what pfSense offers as a guideline. Basically looking for WAN loadbalancing with session tracking, and preferred WAN routing with failover. VPN failover over multiple WAN connections is also a must.

    * Better load balancing support. Integrating something like HAproxy into Astaro should be fairly straight forward and get you 98% of the features of a hardware loadbalancer without the cost.

    I'd like a "view all" in a lot of the pages including definitions, PF Rules, etc.

    The pagination is irritating.

    Also, Webmin does not expand to fit my browser size... big waste. 

    6.x was much better about all of the above.
    I know the AJAX stuff uses a lot more resources, but still...

    Since this is a "General Discussion"

    1.  When using the HTTP proxy, check a search for content before it returns any results.
    2.  If someone with administrative access to the firewall should need to temporarly access a site that is normally blocked, allow them the option to release a site for a specific amount of time. 

    Both of the above features are currently available in a diferent package, but I do not want to switch.

    3.  Add the ability to import into the black/white lists.

    1. Ability to purchase additional home ip licenses for non commercial use (especially with more and more devices in the home requireing ip's)

    2. Wireless support (ability to put a PCI wireless or USB adapter on the astaro box and use it as a WAP).
