VLAN response to slow

hi i have configure asg V7 with two VLAn over a Realtek network interface .the interface show s as it in the hardware tab:

[Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+]
Auto negotiation: On
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Full,10baseT/Half,100baseT/Full,100baseT/Half
Interrupt (IRQ): 233
PCI Device ID: 0x8139:0x8139
MII capable: Yes

The ping works perfectly but any tcp applications get a delay , for intance ftp takes over 10 second to show methe login prompt for typing login & passwd.
Any Idea.

That type of delay sounds like a DNS issue somewhere... what other TCP apps are showing delays?

hi.
I use for these tests the ip number not the fqdn.Another application with this slow beheavor is pop & less often smtp & dns. On the other hand ssh response is perfect.

While you may be ussing the IP address to test the connections, you must make sure that the server application you are connecting to isn't trying to perform a reverse DNS lookup as well.

In thes test I did the ftp server(proftpd) was configured with dnslookup disabled

Is the speed the same between using the ip address to connect instead of the hostname?

Maybe looking through the FTP log files may show where the delay is... whether it is the specifically the client or the server that seems slow.
