MEM Utilization

Is it just me or is the MEM utilization in 7.09 very high. I notice my ASG 220 hitting 85% MEM usage. When that happens the HTTP Proxy slows to a crawl.
Going to attempt a reboot, to see what happens after it flushes.

    The other thing you might try is adding frequently visited websites that you feel are safe to your exceptions list in Web Security | HTTP | Exceptions.  So for example if lots of your users regularly use cnn.com - add it to your exceptions list.  This significantly reduces the traffic being scanned and going to your web cache and will speed up your performance significantly.

    Also, if your staff listens to music a lot, some of the radio station sites on the internet use up some bandwidth, so you might add them to the exception list to.  Check your logs or the executive report and see what takes the most bandwidth / time.

      I would never do such a thing. My good conscience would never allow me to make changes to my customers ASG so they could benefit from a boost in performance and make Astaro look good. [:)]

    If you really want to void your warranty on a 220 I would enable unmaskirq on the internal hard disk via hdparm -u1 or better yet put in a 7200RPM 2.5" HDD. You could even play with the xfermode (hdparm -X). Test your improvements via hdparm -tT /dev/hdc. Don't get me started on tuning the network stack ... O_o.

    Wow Reminds me of the Days of SuSe EMail server tunning, before they sold to Novell. Wonder why the Astaro Developers don't incorporate some of the user community tunning tips. [:D]

    I'm not sure but I think the reason I have been performance tuning is that v7 is too heavy for the lower end ASG models. Whilst some dynamic tuning does occur (eg. partition sizing or squid proxy size during setup) I can only speculate that perhaps not much time has been spent on getting the most out of appliances with v7?

    They might be a little busy fighting the V7 fires, to tune.
    Maybe after V7.10 gets released there will be some time...
