Windows Update Problem

Hi,

We are using an 
ASG120
Firmware 7.009
Windows 2000 Clients, 1 NT Server, 1 XP and 2 Ubuntu

Problem is:

On Windows 2000 I can not do any Updates with IE!

Error: 0x80240030

Configuration IE 6:

Using Proxy for LAN
Do not use Proxy for local adresses

HTTP: astaro....lan  8080

Astaro Configuration:

Web Security - HTTP - Exceptions:

Windows Update
Skip checks: 
Authentication - Antivirus - Extension Blocking - URL-Filter - Content Removal

Target Domains:
update.microsoft.com
download.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
windowsupdate.com
microsoft.com

I tried several things:

For example I added on the Exceptions the 2 Admins, not working.

I got the security options back to "normal" on IE6, not working.

What am I doing wrong? What did I forgot?

Please note that this FW is new to me [8-)]

    IE error 0x80240030 means there is an invalid character exists in your proxy override settings. That said you may not have the BITS client installed on Win2K (or it's an old version) which is required for WindowsUpdate. You will be seeing this error if you are using an older/unpatched version of IE and Win2K. I suggest bypassing the Astaro cache completely in order to affect the updates on Win2K (ie. turn the Astaro cache OFF, allow port 80, run WindowsUpdate on your old Win2K boxes and then turn back on once they are fully patched.

    I installed the software, without result.

    How can I turn off the Astaro FW for this particular Client to Update?

    By the way: Updates are installed up to April 2007 (about).

    Hi edvler,

    I have the same problem!
    In my configuration the proxy is in transparent mode and I got the error 0x80072EFD
    on the windowsupdate.log file.
    If I disable the proxy and I create HTTP/HTTPS rules on firewall then the windows update
    works.

    But if I turn the proxy to standard mode the windows update works!!!

    So I think this is a transparent proxy problem....

    Till today this problem is not fixed from astaro.

    Still can not Update any Windows clients (W2k, XP Pro, NT 4 Server).

    Too bad to have a Firewall which does not allow Updates of the System... [:@]

    I haven't had any problems updating any of my boxes behind the ASG using transparent proxy.  I just tested using transparent proxy but explicitly setting the browser to go through the proxy and it works as well.  You may have something incorrectly configured on your ASG.

    Hi,

    rolyguy7, what firewall rules do you have.  I have been using Transparent Proxy for updates and Stnadard Proxy for users.  Windows Updates have not been running until earlier this week.

    To achieve this, I added URL Filter to the standard exception list created by default on the Astaro box.

    Additionally (and possibly unnecessarily), opened the HTTPS port on the firewall.

    I don't know why I had to add URL Filter to the standard exception, as I have no categories blocked.  However, this was causing an issue with another application update as well and I 'tried it'.

    i don't have this issue.  first off make sure you have them as exceptions in the exceptions section..and make them exempt form a/v..that' the issue you are hitting..it's not the proxy.

    You must open in the Packet Filter the https Port like= internal -> HTTPS -> Any (or External)
    It works perfectly... [:)]
