Backup process from ver 6 to vers 7 Status

Hi all,

I know this has been asked in the past. It was mentioned a new update of patch would be available to allow backup from 6 to be run on version 7.

End of May was the time frame for having this ready. Has anyone heard anything more on this? I am keen to move to 7 but need to restore all my settings from a 6 build first..

    Well it has been released, and I am not impressed at all. I won't be migrating to V7 on my production firewalls any time soon.

    Below is why. I can not take the time to recreate 100 site2site tunnels on multiple firewalls.

    The backup converter has the following limitations:
    Only backups from 6.303 or later are supported.
    HA configuration will not be converted.
    Remote Syslog will not be converted.
    Site-to-site and Remote Access VPN: Only PPTP settings will be converted.
    Intrusion Protection settings will not be converted.
    Network and service groups: Groups containing other groups will be expanded.
    Packetfilter: QoS settings of packetfilter rules will not be converted.
    Interfaces: DHCP on Eth-VLAN is unsupported in V7.
    Interfaces: Configured Ethernet aliases that are disabled will not be converted.
    E-mail address fields (such as System >> Settings >> Administrator Contact) will not be converted.
    HTTP proxy configuration will not be converted.
    SMTP proxy configuration will not be converted.
    Remote user authentication services will not be converted.
    DHCP relay will not be converted.

    It looks like it is a lot of work to convert a 6 to a 7. Not smooth at all and will surely lead to some downtime

    Yep, it looks like I'll be creating conversion configurations for my customers ahead of time in VMWare sessions... basically looks like just NAT and Packet filter rules move over (with a few other tidbits)...then restoring them after the upgrade. It's going to take a while!

    Now just waiting for the upgrade kit to be released. I'm wondering if it will be an up2date package that will come down for my V6 or if it will be a backup config on V6, apply SAI V7 image, convert and restore backup, kill self manually resetting everything type of thing?
     
     
    Edit:   Ooops, posted too soon.  From the upgrade article in the KB:  "Beginning with ASG V6.310 you will be able to automatically upgrade V6 firmware and configuration files to V7 (suggested for remote installations) from within Webadmin"  
     
    Who knows on this one?  Could be a day or 3 months from now.  lol
