Upgrading to 7 and licensing issues

Well, i have been looking in this forum quite a while to get a feel for the problems that may arise updating to v7.

To try things out, i installed the home edition (in my home), and despite others opinions on the forum it gives me a lot of bang for the bucks.
I have no problems with torrents and other stuff, and i find the home edition excellent to use for work from home with vpn, SIP proxy etc working fine.

Now to my concerns:
I use a version 6 at the office, a 50 user license which i am almost abusing now since we got IP based surveillance and also a IP based PBX.

So i solved this by putting two new VLANS, one for the cameras, one for the phones. None of these have access to the internet, but goes from one VLAN to another for the videoserver/pbx.
So in V6 either the phones (around 15 of them) and the cameras (around 20) uses any licenses since they talk vlan to vlan but not to the internet.

We also have 3 web servers through the astaro for our webshop which is mission critical.

So, here is my concerns:
I have quite a hefty configuration in the V6, is it possible to read the backups from V6 into V7 or do i have to redo it all again?

If i upgrade to v7, and my units for one reason or another starts to go over the 50 limit (guest laptops, traffic from vlan to vlan). Will the firewall "block" some adresses? Will there be any risk that the blocked adresses will be our mission critical webservers?

In v7 i also cant find the function to reset the counters like in v6.
How do people do when they want to change the IP range for some reason?
Change one unit at a time and wait for a week?

I know i can use extra routers to do another NAT into the astaro, but then i lose all reporting and ease of use which was the reason to buy it in the first place.

Any opinions on this issue would be most helpful.

    1) As of Version 7.004, import of Version 6 backups is not possible.  However, I understand that this capability will be coming very soon--so yes, if you upgrade today, you would have to do a total reconfiguration of your ASG

    2) If you have more than 50 internal IPs that traverse the firewall, yes, you do run the risk of losing functionality for some IPs.  However, bear in mind that the ASG is only counting those IPs that traverse the firewall; Printers, IP phones, etc. that don't have the ASG set as their default gateway will not count against your license limit.

    3) NATting additional IPs is not effective for "cheating" the Astaro on IP counting in Version 7... but if you follow the rules outlined in #2 above, you shouldn't have any issues.

    Thanks for your answer Bruce.

    My problem is that i have internal IP:s traversing the firewall, since they go from one VLAN to another. This did not seem to count on the V6 license.

    I see what i do, it just hard to explain to my boss to double up the astaro license just to get the phones and cameras going.

    Also the locking scares me.
    One conference or seminar here at the office with people bringing in the laptops, and then i will have all kinds of lockups with no chance to release it.

    So i guess i pass, and look for another firewall solution when version 6 gets obsolete.

    I'd really like to give Astaro a try but am not certain I understand the license limits enough to do so without finding myself up against a wall of node blockage.  My home inventory is as follows:

    2-primary laptops (wife and I) used with both WiFi and Ethernet on a regular basis.

    1-old experimental laptop running PC-BSD.

    Firewall box currently running ClarkConnect with 3-NIC's for 3 LAN segemets and one NIC for WAN (would become the Astaro box).

    1-old P3 box running FreeNAS serving files and acting as network time server.

    2-cell phones with WiFi (wife and I).

    1-WiFi Nokia Internet Tablet.

    1-Tablet PC from work that needs periodic Internet connection for updates.

    1-old P3 box for experimenting with BSD or Linux OS's.

    The occasional guest with a laptop.

    I feel as though I can easily exceed the 10 IP limit.  If Astaro is as good as some feel what is the cost of a license going above the 10 IP's anyway?

    If you are in the States, send me a PM, I'll be glad to price it for you.  I would suggest, though, that you go ahead and try it with a few devices behind it to get a feel for the functionality it offers.  If you are looking at Version 7, make sure you up2date it all the way up to Version 7.005.
