Some General Questions

Hello Everyone, 

First thing firsts. I would like to say that I just installed Astaro Gateway and think it is great software. I am very pleased with it and just need to learn howto use it. Previously I was using Smoothwall and it got me by and always wanted to try out Astaro and I will be using this now. With that said here are some questions I have.  

Questions: 
1) I cannot access or login to World of Warcraft. I am guessing I need to open ports or something like that. I will also need to get all the games I play like CS and so on. 

2) Also my dad needs to VPN to his work network and when I installed Astaro he cannot do it with his work software anymore.

    If you are using ASG V7, then you should just use the SSL VPN, much easier to use, works through more firewalls, and free.

    Well I would like to purchase ASG license and also get ASC. It is also good to know I guess howto set it up.

    Update,

    I did try to setup SSL but when I got to User-Portal and download the top main package. I install it and it is trying to dial to the wrong IP.

    Other Issue, 
    I get a email that says it cannot update or check for updates. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

    For the SSL, go to Remote Access/SSL, then go to Advanced.  In the Override Hostname box, put a hostname/IP that is publicly reachable. Then reinstall the SSL vpn client.

    For the up2date: if your ASG is connected to the internet, the up2date should work. If during the time you are not connected an up2date check occurs, you will get a email notification which is queued and will be retransmitted. So it might occur that you get emails from a time where you had connectivity problems at a time where actually everything is fine.
    Only for recent emails this indicates a problem. If that problem persists although you are connected to the internet, please post again here.

    It is connected to the internet all the time. So I am just kind of wondering why it is not working.

    if you find a program being blocked (such as WoW), open the WebAdmin client and go to Network Security, Packet Filter, and click the "Open Live Log" button.  Then, try to launch whatever you are having trouble with... You should notice several attempts to/from your ip address to connect to somewhere.  You merely need to add a new rule (Click New Rule from the Packet Filter submenu) so that the connection works. Personally, I like to create a new group and add the appropriate rules for it.  You will probably add 2-10 rules to get a program like WoW running.  I have several rules for City of Heroes/Villians entered due to them using different subnets/ports for login server, database server, map server, etc.

    Hi Guys, 

    Using Astaro since 6 version for a long time. Now using version 7. Have the same problem as mentioned above. All ports and stuff are opened. Actually for the game itself WoW uses only 1 port - 3124 which is currently open, but the game hangs on the "Success" message and nothing happens at all and u can wait for ages, but nothing happens, plz help.

    P.S. Other games such as CS:S and so on work fine...
    P.P.S. One more thing... This happened after 7.003 update, before update all worked fine. Astaro team any ideas ???

    I think you will find that WOW uses port 3724 at least the version my sons play does.

    WOW worked fine iv all versions of v7.*** to varying degrees. V7.003 and v7.004 have not had any affect on WOW accessing the network.

    Please describe your packet filter settings.
