Some General Questions

Hello Everyone, 

First thing firsts. I would like to say that I just installed Astaro Gateway and think it is great software. I am very pleased with it and just need to learn howto use it. Previously I was using Smoothwall and it got me by and always wanted to try out Astaro and I will be using this now. With that said here are some questions I have.  

Questions: 
1) I cannot access or login to World of Warcraft. I am guessing I need to open ports or something like that. I will also need to get all the games I play like CS and so on. 

2) Also my dad needs to VPN to his work network and when I installed Astaro he cannot do it with his work software anymore.

    If you already have a Masquerade rule setup (and it sounds like you do), yes, you will need to open up some ports..  I don't know about World of Warcraft, but for VPN:

    Version 6.x:  If your dad is using PPTP, UDP port 1723 outbound should be enabled (there is a PPTP service predefined on the Astaro already) and GRE (IP Protocol 17) needs to be enabled.  Enable the PPTP Helper in the packet filter configuration.  If your dad is using an IPSEC connection, UDP 500 outbound needs to be allowed, and (at least for RoadWarrior connections) UDP port 4500 outbound needs to be allowed.  Some VPN clients may need other ports; check with the IT guy or documentation.

    If you're running Version 7, there is a predefined VPN services group, just add that to your outbound packet filter.

    Thx for the response so quick. I am using version v7 of Astaro. 

    I will do that when I get home. So again for the game I just need to open up the game ports and then it should be ok?

    I am still having problems with setting up or getting IPsec to work and also getting ASCv9 to work.

    I'm assuming you have a paid version of ASC, as the trial expires in 30 days... if you do, you should be able to start a support ticket with Astaro.

    If you are using ASG V7, then you should just use the SSL VPN, much easier to use, works through more firewalls, and free.

    Well I would like to purchase ASG license and also get ASC. It is also good to know I guess howto set it up.

    Update,

    I did try to setup SSL but when I got to User-Portal and download the top main package. I install it and it is trying to dial to the wrong IP.

    Other Issue, 
    I get a email that says it cannot update or check for updates. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

    For the SSL, go to Remote Access/SSL, then go to Advanced.  In the Override Hostname box, put a hostname/IP that is publicly reachable. Then reinstall the SSL vpn client.

    For the up2date: if your ASG is connected to the internet, the up2date should work. If during the time you are not connected an up2date check occurs, you will get a email notification which is queued and will be retransmitted. So it might occur that you get emails from a time where you had connectivity problems at a time where actually everything is fine.
    Only for recent emails this indicates a problem. If that problem persists although you are connected to the internet, please post again here.

    It is connected to the internet all the time. So I am just kind of wondering why it is not working.

    if you find a program being blocked (such as WoW), open the WebAdmin client and go to Network Security, Packet Filter, and click the "Open Live Log" button.  Then, try to launch whatever you are having trouble with... You should notice several attempts to/from your ip address to connect to somewhere.  You merely need to add a new rule (Click New Rule from the Packet Filter submenu) so that the connection works. Personally, I like to create a new group and add the appropriate rules for it.  You will probably add 2-10 rules to get a program like WoW running.  I have several rules for City of Heroes/Villians entered due to them using different subnets/ports for login server, database server, map server, etc.
