90% of the user count for your license

hi,

I am getting this messages:

This email was sent by your Astaro Security Gateway software to notify
you that you have exceeded 90% of the user count for your license.

Licensed Users/IPs: 10
Counted Users/IPs: 9

A little bit strange because I have only 4 ps running behind the Firewall and haven't even created users. The only user id I have is Admin.

So why this messages......

Assumption, you are using v7.***.

I suspect you have DHCP enabled and each time a PC connects to the ASG it gets a new address. Each address has an expiry duration of 7 days and then it will be dropped from the counted list.

There are many threads on this subject.

If you check the Licensing page you should be able to see what IPs addresses are used.

Does anyone know if Astaro will block the newest IP or the oldest when exceeding your license?

One little trick if your using DHCP, create static DHCP entries for your devices. This is an easy way to make sure your device dont use multiple IP's every time they reboot.

Side note: devices should be assigned their old IP either way, a DHCP server should assign the previously assigned IP to that MAC address if the lease still exists in the DHCP table.

Setting the DHCP lease time to at least one week generally assures that the DHCP clients will retain the same IP address when they are not running 24 hours a day.

at this stage there is nowhere in v7.002 to set a lease time. but it appears by default to be 24 hours.

...and my box still has leases listed from a week ago even though they've expired! Is there a way to rid myself of them? I've only got 3 legitimate boxes behind the firewall, but am getting alerted that I have 10-11 IPs checked out....

Setting up static DHCP reservations for those computers or devices should help.

They will expire eventually, btw, but not if your computers keep getting different addresses.
