newbie ?'s bout the s/ware

Steve Gibson from GRC speaks highly about the sponsorship of Astaro, the quality of the product, so I finally got the time to try it, but have some real basic type questions.  

Does the s/ware replace the router by turning a dedicated pc into a router?  

Does the software works w/wireless?  

I downloaded the new v7 for vmware.   (I already run Linux virtually, that is to say, I am familiar with it)

Installed in vmware, the instructions assume I have the ability to actually login with a password.

I can't.

I don't know why.  Can't find any info on that.

Sometimes I can type in letters at the login prompt.  Sometimes it comes out garbage.

Either way, login fails.  When I type in a password, there is no indication my keystrokes are seen as keystrokes.


I gotta think I must not be reading the correct install manual.


Help is much appreciated here.

    Ahh... Oops.  Well. Maybe contact closest reseller and get help with install.

    I'm sure any decent reseller would be happy to assist for possible future sale [;)]

    Looks like he's given up though.

    I am an ITPro, been in the biz for 25 ;years, automated some of the fortune 100 companies, and am reading here that 'it depends'.

    But you can blame me for the software not being accessible, I have no problem with that.

    I tried this in windows and in linux, it's a no go, and you people don't even know what a wireless network is

    so

    There is no need for any of you to respond further.  I am removing this link from my browser.

    You guys tried to help but he was not listening.  I think the VMware version would be the hardest to try out. I don't think he realized that with ASG running in VMware he would have to log in to the virtual machine from a browser on the host machine with the virtual network connection. 

    What was his deal with the wireless?

    It also probably had to do with the fact that unless your virtual network's ip matched the ip of the virtual machine, you will not be able to connect up.

    This requires changing the virtual nic ip address into the subnet that is given on the console once the VM boots up.

    However, I do not believe this poster has much knowledge about vmware, or anything, since his posts were runaround answers, just trying to put the blame on people that were even answering his posts.
