Performance question...

Hi all,

My system at home seems to run slow and I am wondering if anyone can give me some guidelines?

Version:

6.303

System:

AMD 2400+ / 1 gig ram / 80 gig drive - this should be plenty for quick speed right? I do have caching enabled and a 10 meg down speed.

When I compare the performance to my CheckPoint Safe@Office box, it is really much slower. The stats on the box look normal. I had thought it would be faster...

Any ideas on things to try? Should I disable caching? I really want to use this box - but I am having a hard time with the speed hit...

    please descibe what do you mean by 'run slow'?

    Is websurfing slow, or downloading, p2p, ...?

    What features do you have enabled?

    Websurfing seems slower... Downloading runs about 3/4 of normal speed...

    I am using HTTP / DNS / SOCKS/ POP / SMTP / Anti-Virus / Content Filtering / basically the whole 9 yards!

    I have read that QOS should be turned off - I have to try that. Mine is turned on and posted speeds are 90 % of actual so I did not think that was an issue... I have to try it though.

    Campared to the CheckPoint box - it just seems "sluggish" and I would expect it to run as fast if not faster....

    Have you logged onto the console and run `top` to see if there are any processes using a lot of CPU? Most likely content filtering is slowing things down, though you should have more than enough CPU power for that!

    I had my speed values incorrect!

    So here is my question - if I have 10 megs down and 1 meg up, the correct FULL SPEED values are 102400 down and 10240 up - is this correct or am I missing additonal "0's"?
