There's been quite a bit of discussions about the technicalities of the new home user licensing in v7, along with a fair amount of presumptions made. I haven't, however, seen anyone that's using v7 relate their experiences. Generally speaking, theory is one thing and practice is another. So I'm wondering if there's anyone that's using v7 that could chime in and clarify things a bit?
- If you have, say, a printer, and you set it with a static IP with no default gateway listed, will ASL count this against your 10 IP limit?
- I've seen mention of web and email functionality not being present in the basic free version, but then I've also seen it said that these things are only specified for compatibility with old licenses, and that they are indeed there under a new category.
- If I have a laptop with 2 IPs, 1 wired and 1 wifi, and I switch from wifi to wired, how long will it take to drop so it no longer "counts against me"?
- Any other ways that have been found to work within the licensing restrictions when you have a bunch of small devices that don't traverse the firewall?
- Has anyone actually had problems with the lowered limit of concurrent connections?
- Any other relevant points that I'm not thinking of would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any insights from any of the early adopters out there. I know that some of these things have been addressed, but then there are also conflicting statements throughout the forum. Most of the conflicting statements, however, were from people stating that those are reasons that they are not using v7, so I would really appreciate actual experiences. I'm hoping that this thread will help others like me that are preparing for the upgrade when the up2date version is released.
